• Forward March & Run supports Goodwill’s Veterans’ Services

Goodwill of Central Illinois provides many types of support and services to our veterans. From taking care of our homeless veterans through our veterans’ home and Stand Down event to getting job ready with free classes and career services, we help reconnect veterans to our community.

Now, we want you to help us do more. More for our veterans. More for their families. More for our community. Please join us as we march and run to support veterans’ services right here in Central Illinois.

  • March or Run in honor of a veteran or military member

All participants will receive an additional bib to wear across their back. You can name the person you’re honoring and wear it throughout the event. Whether you’re a marcher, runner, veteran, military member, family member or patriotic supporter, we have a distance for you to join us and honor our veterans here in Central Illinois.

  • Opening with patriotism – finishing across home plate

Through the generous support of our sponsors, Goodwill’s Forward March & Run is providing a unique race experience. We open the event by honoring those who have and are serving. Participants then run along a route lined with a motorcycle honor guard and winding past the downtown war memorials. The 8-mile route takes runners out to Soldier’s Hill in Springdale Cemetery. All marchers and runners get to finish inside the stadium and cross home plate. We’re hoping you get goose bumps.<<See More Here >>

  • Time to Rest and Recover

In military terms, a “Stand Down” is a break from combat when soldiers can get new clothes, eat a hot meal, rest and relax. As part of our Homeless Veterans’ Re-entry Program—which provides job training, computer skills and resume advice—we held our first annual Stand Down at Peoria’s O’Brien Field in October, 2009. Since it’s inception, hundreds of homeless veterans have taken advantage of the full-day event, receiving everything from free meals, showers, haircuts and winter clothing to health screenings, VA and Social Security benefits counseling, and housing and employment referrals. <<See More Here >>
